Are You Paying Too Much For Your Car Insurance?

At Beucher Insurance we offer competitive insurance rates for cars, trucks, SUV’s, min-vans, and electric vehicles (e-cars). No matter the age or how many miles you drive annually, we most likely have an auto insurance policy that will meet your needs.

The State of Florida requires vehicle owners to carry a minimum auto insurance coverage of $10,000 in Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and $10,000 in Property Damage Liability (PDL). Each of these vary in what they cover. Your Personal Injury Protection potentially covers medical expenses, death benefits, and lost wages for the insured and their passengers, regardless of who is at fault. If the insured driver causes damage to another person’s property, your Property Damage Liability will cover the repair costs. Damages could include hitting another person’s vehicle, their fencing, or hitting their home or building..

What are some types of coverage that can be included in a Florida auto insurance policy?

Liability coverage – most states require a minimum liability coverage within an auto policy. If you are at fault in an accident, this type of coverage includes bodily injury and property damage you cause to others. Bodily injury liability insurance (BIL) covers medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.

Property damage liability (PDL) coverage pays for damage you cause to someone else’s property in an accident where you are at fault. The coverage can include repairs to buildings, the other person’s vehicles or other structures.

Comprehensive coverage – in the event that you have a non-collision claim (so a non-accident) and you have damage to your vehicle from hail, fire, hitting an animal, vandalism or theft, comprehensive coverage will cover these types of damages.

Collision coverage – regardless of who is at fault, if your vehicle experiences damage from an accident with another vehicle or object, having collision coverage on your auto policy will cover the repair expenses.

Personal Injury Protection (PIP) – depending on the state you live in, Personal Injury Protection may be optional. Regardless of who is at fault, this coverage potentially pays for lost wages, medical expenses, and other related costs for you and your passengers after a car accident.

Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage – if you are hit by a driver who has little or no insurance and they are at fault, this type of coverage potentially could pay for your medical expenses, lost income or pain and suffering.

There are a few additional types of coverage you can add on to your policy, these are entirely optional but worth considering. These include accident forgiveness, car rental reimbursement, gap insurance and roadside assistance. Our insurance agents will discuss these options and share how these can complement your entire auto policy.

When you meet with an auto insurance agent, be sure to inquire about discounts. If you are a safe driver and have not had any tickets or accidents, you may save on your premiums for having a safe driving record. If you have school-age drivers, you may save a few dollars if your child has good grades or makes the honor roll. Proof of these milestones will be required. Bundling is another way you can save money. If you purchase a homeowners insurance policy and your auto policy through the same insurance agency, you may be eligible for a discount. Choosing the right deductible can also help you save some money on your annual premiums. You may consider paying a higher deductible, which can reduce your annual rates.
